Program Director, Internal Medicine

Greg D. Clarke, MD

Dr. Greg Clarke is Program Director of West Virginia Univeristy/Charleston Department of Medicine, Charleston Division.

Program Director, Med-Pediatrics

Dr. Greg Clarke came to West Virginia absolutely on purpose, having been a student in Chicago and an electron microscopist in Boston and tired of city life. Familiar with the area from childhood visits to relatives, the main attractions were friendly people and the ability to be 30 minutes away from the center of its largest city and be lost in the wilderness, outnumbered by black bears and wild turkeys. He has not been disappointed.
Little did he realize as he embarked on his medical training here, he would be in an incredible medical learning environment. The only tertiary care center in the area, supplying services to a catchment of a million or more individuals with a wide range of pathology, CAMC and the Charleston Division of WVU School of Medicine have been a dream come true for a physician who favors zebras to horses.
Completing his final two years of medical school here, as well as a combined IM/Peds residency, he went out to seek his fortune in a nearby emergency room, only to be enticed
back into academic medicine with it's teaching opportunities and variety of cases. He joined the faculties of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in 1996 as director of the combined IM/Peds residency. In that time he has also been the director of the 3rd year medical student clerkship in Internal Medicine, as acts as associate director of the Internal Medicine residency as well.
In his spare time, he enjoys painting, cooking and putting his feet up with his wife and two daughters on a porch that overlooks his 58 acres in Liberty, WV, 30 minutes from the center of Charleston, 3 miles from paradise "in the middle of nowhere.
