 Prospective Residents

We are pleased that you are interested in an intern, residency or fellowship program at Charleston Area Medical Center.  CAMC is a nonprofit, community and academic medical center with over 170 residents and 6,000 employees. As a leader in medical education, research, patient care, and quality, we strive to prepare our residents for careers in primary health care, subspecialty training, academic medicine, and community health.   For the second year in a row, CAMC has been name among the nation’s top 5 percent of hospitals for overall clinical excellence in a study released by Healthgrades.  CAMC is also the only hospital in West Virginia and one of only 261 hospitals nationwide to achieve the 2015 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence based on its outstanding clinical quality performance.

Living in West Virginia’s capital city provides with an excellent quality of life outside of work. Known as the outdoor recreation capital of the east, Charleston offers endless activities for all ages from hiking and biking to skiing and water sports.   With the cost of living below the national average, affordable housing, good schools and very low crime rates make it an excellent place to raise a family.  Additionally, you will find a rich music and arts scene both for adults and families. Located within a day’s drive of several major cities, we encourage you to discover why West Virginia is often called “Almost Heaven.”

Most of CAMC’s programs participate in a formal match process and accept applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).  While most of our programs utilize ERAS, several programs still require a paper application. Please check individual programs for specific application guidelines and applicant criteria.   International Medical Graduates interested in applying for residency must be certified by the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).   Individuals matching to a CAMC program or fellowship must seek an appropriate visa/work authorization prior to training.

Charleston Area Medical Center strives to be the best place to learn and the best place to work. We offer competitive salaries in addition to excellent benefits. As the largest hospital system in West Virginia and as home to a brand new state-of-the-art cancer center, CAMC invites you to learn more about our training, our facilities, our city and the dedicated faculty and staff who make this health system an outstanding place for resident education.
