Dr. Heywood was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He completed his BS in Zoology, followed by an MS in Ornithology at Brigham Young University. He received his medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, California. After completing medical school, he performed his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at West Virginia University-Charleston Division, under the watchful eye of his father, Dr. E. Reed Heywood. After graduating in 2000, Dr. Heywood joined the full-time faculty as Assistant Program Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology until 2003, when he entered private practice. After 2 years in private practice, Dr. Heywood rejoined the full-time faculty as Program Director in July of 2005. He is Board Certified with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Heywood is married to Shari Heywood and they have 3 children (Austin, Alex, and Sammy). In his spare time, he enjoys boating, jogging, basketball, and mostly, spending time with his family.
